Halloween Photoshoot for local dance club

by Jason Mac Cormac Photography

Last week I volunteered my time helping a local dance club, Got2Dance Stage School, capture great photos and memories for the kids and young adults in their Halloween costumes. I had such good fun even got a few scares from the 3-18 year old ghouls and demons :)

Aoife and the team of Got2Dance had done amazing job organising a suitably spooky setting as a backdrop for the photos, hats off to them they really do go above and beyond to make a special party complete with dj music and various games, even managed to get some of the team from Amazon Ireland to sponsor and help out on the night.

For lighting I brought one light on a stand and used a wireless trigger, as I knew wires and having too many lights with sugar fueled kids would not be a good combination. I strategically set up the light beside a table full of props and guided the kids to the other side to keep a safe space. Light and trigger worked perfectly and didn’t miss a beat, focusing was an altogether more challenging process as the hall was near dark with only lights from the DJ at the far wall, manual focus was the only way to go and try to have everyone step into same distance from camera. With the exception of a couple of soft focus images the vast majority were perfectly sharp, almost as sharp as the vampires teeth I was photographing :)

Got2Dance stage school are based in Kingswood Tallaght and run a very active dance school for children and young adults in the local areas. Aoife who runs the school had helped me out in the past and it was a pleasure to return the favour, seeing all the happy faces of the children and their parents posing for their photos was payment enough.

A small selection of the 200+ photos I took.

If you know some young people interested in dance give Aoife a shout, you can find contact details for Got2Dance Stage School on their Facebook page.

If you are looking for a photographer for your event, give me a call.

Thanks, Jason
